From the President:
Summer Ants and Spirituality
By Maribeth Stewart Blogoslawski
A curious title, you are thinking, but you’ll see the connection shortly. July brings us one step closer to our National Convention and hopefully, one step closer to the growth of our spiritual life. Normally, things slow down in the summer but no matter the time of year, it is essential that we all try to set aside a specific amount of time each day, even if it is just 10 minutes, when we can ignore our phone, settle in a quiet space, enter into silence and simply commune with God. Are you thinking, impossible? I have little ones, I have to take care of my parents, I have to work and clean the house, and the list goes on. I know that at certain times in our life, it doesn’t seem easy to carve out this time but I promise you that if you make it a priority, the rest of your obligations not only fall into place but take on a new significance and become lighter. The benefit to your soul and to your physical self is measured in graces received. Try some of our NCCW prayers or rosary reflections to get started. Or just clear your mind and let God speak to your heart. It is ten minutes that will become a habit; a habit that will change your life. Ants -as a species not strong, yet they store up their food in the summer -Proverbs 30:25. So, let’s be spiritual ants this summer and store up our spiritual food!
Things are moving right along now at a rapid clip in preparation for our National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia from Au
gust 21-24. It will be such a time of learning, prayer, and celebration!
I hope that you have seen and love our new logo celebrating our 100 years of NCCW that will occur in 2020. We are using the new logo now because we are all excited about reaching such a wonderful milestone. Imagine, nearly 100 years of growing our spirituality, offering our leadership and service throughout our land. Haven’t we been richly blessed to be able to touch hearts in our parishes and across our nation, and through our partners, throughout the entire world for 100 years! We can only imagine what we shall do in the next 100. I know that the amazing women of Council in partnership with our Spiritual Advisors will indeed continue to meet the needs of our Church and Society in ways that perhaps we cannot even imagine. Yet, there will always be the bedrock of our strong Catholic faith that will remain constant in truths and inspiring in deeds, our NCCW legacy, and those beautiful traits common to women of compassion and nurturing care that will enable us to contribute in unique ways to our world and to our Church throughout all time. We have such a rich history to celebrate and such a future full of hope. We women of Council are truly blessed -and summer is such a good time to step back, remember, dream, and pray.

National Council of Catholic Women continues decades-long tradition of participating in March for Life, the largest pro-life event in the world. Active in the pro-life movement even prior to the infamous Roe v Wade decision that legalized abortion in 1973, the National Council of Catholic Women has been, since its foundation by the U.S. Catholic bishops in 1920, a voice for the dignity of every human person.

You may not think you know someone affected by Domestic Violence but you probably do and just don’t know it. It could be a family member, a person in your church, a friend, or your neighbor. Not knowing doesn’t save lives, information can.

pay off educational debt or provide required funding to enter.
How You Can Help
We invite all to consider raising funds in support of Catholic women wanting to pursue a religious vocation. These women are eager to answer their call to holiness and to begin their journey with a specific religious community. We, as NCCW, passed a resolution in 2015 to support vocations within the church. Your gift helps remove this obstacle from their process to say yes to God.
